Water

One of our most precious resources. Conservation, recovery and water treatment initiatives at Boomland include:

  • 2 Wastewater treatment plants, with a capacity of up to 7,500 m3.
  • More than 200 drinking water points.
  • 100% compostable toilets, which require no water use.
  • Planting of native trees, shrubs and plants, which consume little water.
  • Communication campaigns on the theme of water.

Soil

For many years we have been developing methods to enrich the soil and give it what it needs to stay healthy. This is the foundation of an ecological path: working with Nature, never against it.

In 2006 we introduced, for the first time, compostable toilets (without water or chemicals and which produce soil).

Since then, after many years of research, experimentation and application, we have perfected the ideal compostable toilet model. Custom-made for our ecosystem, but applicable to any event or space.

Reforestation

This program began in 2015. Since then we have already planted more than 1,000 trees and hundreds of shrubs.

Some of the tree species planted include: Acer monspessulanum, Acer pseudoplatanus, Alnus glutinosa, Betula pubescens, Castanea sativa, Celtis australis, Populus alba, Olea europaea var. sylvestris, Prunus avium e Quercus pyrenaica.

Energy

At Boomland, we use electricity from the public grid most of the time.

In Portugal, between December 31 and January 1, 2023, 44,128 GWh of electricity were generated, of which 70.7% came from renewable sources.

Mobility

In 2023 we took another big step in managing the impact of human activities at nature-based festivals. We divided our footprint into three areas: one relating to greenhouse gas emissions into the atmosphere, another on actions in water systems and a third on the impact on biodiversity.

All events taking place at Boomland are subject to carbon footprint measurement.

Packaging

A sustainability policy is applied to both the selection and participation of food vendors and vendors at the Bazaar, the Boom Festival market, and the Being Gathering, taking into account not only the materials of the products for sale, but also their origin, production, and packaging.

Art and Creativity

Michelangelo’s statement applies to our vision of art: that it is a profound connection to the source. Through art, we give meaning to the world. Art at Boomland is a bridge to our spiritual dimension.

Aesthetics create symbols that help us transcend, while connecting us to our personal and social essences. At Boomland you will find a wide diversity of artistic expressions: large sculptures, interactive art, play parks, artistic gardens, installations, aquatic art, immersive environments, land art, digital art and much more.

Art here is an adventure, a journey of discovery. It is beauty and spirit; it is a celebration.

Nutrition

Boomland is also a space for regeneration and body care, where food plays a central role as a way of nourishing and caring for our community.

People from all over the world participate in our projects, so we seek to offer a wide diversity of cuisines, from Mediterranean to Asian flavors, vegan or macrobiotic options, Ayurvedic, gluten-free, dairy-free, among others.

Our food philosophy is conscious: we prioritize organic, local or fair trade products.

The use of biodegradable cutlery is mandatory.

Social Change

The Boom Karuna Project (created in 2014) was born as a way to redistribute part of Boom Festival’s profits in support of humanitarian, environmental and social causes, at a local and international level.

Currently, 1% of our EBITDA is donated to external organizations aligned with the organization’s core values.

To date, the Boom Karuna Project has contributed around €250,000 to various initiatives.
